Umicore Galvanotechnik is awarded Innovation Prize East Wuerttemberg – 
Prize for talents and patents

The Innovation Prize 2008 was presented to our employees Uwe Manz and Klaus Bronder for an outstanding patent (EP1192297B1). In electroplating, special electrolytes are used. The deposits find application in the decorative and technical fields. Above all special features such as low and long-term stable contact resistance and excellent corrosion and wear resistance are highly valued. The range of applications is very wide: e.g. mobile phones, printed circuit boards, automotive contacts, airbag igniters, anti-lock braking systems, smart cards, spectacle frames, writing utensils, jewellery, watches etc. The new additives for these electrolytes allow a much faster layer build-up and a wider process window. Simplified working with the electrolyte and considerable increases in productivity can be realized in this way. The patent has made quite a number of new gold electrolytes possible which have been known under the brand name of AURUNA^® for a long time, setting standards in industry.
